What to know before scheduling your appointment

PLEASE NOTE: We offer online scheduling for surgeries only. You may also get your animal vaccinated/microchipped at time of surgery. Our Saturday Vaccine & Microchip Clinics are walk in only and there is no need to schedule an appointment. For information on our Saturday Vaccine & Microchip Clinics, please click here.

  • For large and giant breed dogs we may recommend waiting to spay/neuter until 12-18 months of age. This pertains to dogs that will be >50-60 pounds at their adult weight. You should discuss this with your regular veterinarian.
  • Must be at least 2 months of age
  • Must be less than 10 years of age
  • Must weigh more than 2 pounds

We are only able to perform surgeries on cats and dogs less than 10 years of age and with no other health concerns. If you have any health/behavioral concerns about your pet, or if your pet has been sick within the last two monthsplease let us know in the NOTES section when making your online appointment. We will call you to follow up and ensure it is safe to go through with the surgery. If you do not let us know about any issues in advance, there is a chance your pet will be denied surgery on your appointment day.

Please also let us know about any of the following conditions:

  • If your pet is in heat
  • If your pet is possibly pregnant
  • If your pet has an undescended testicle (Cryptorchid)
  • If your pet is obese

These conditions are considered higher risk than routine spay/neuter surgeries. They may require increased anesthesia and surgery time which may result in additional fees. Please see our pricing page here for more information and a complete list of additional charges.

Flat or “smushed” faced breeds have an increased risk of breathing problems and known complications with anesthesia and recovery. For this reason we do not perform spay/neuter surgeries on Boston Terriers, French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs and Pugs. Other brachycephalic breeds including but not limited to Pekingese, Shih Tzus, Boxers and Persian cats will be considered on an individual basis. Our vet may decide to decline surgery  due to the increased risks. We are available to do pre-surgery screening on these animals to determine their eligibility for surgery. Please email or call the clinic if you want to schedule a prescreening or have additional questions related to brachycephalic breeds.

Thank you again for entrusting your pet with Bend Spay + Neuter!

We look forward to serving you.
